Hi Marek

I enjoyed your article about extending Christmas to February. However, in this consumer ridden society it just wouldn’t work. There is too much emphasis on Christmas presents for Christmas to start on the 24th December or thereabouts. Society is obsessed with buying presents and the media have ‘decided’ that we need at least a month to prepare for that massive decision.

If only presents were cancelled and every gift was a gift to charity. Some charities have already started that idea of building a toilet or a a well in Africa. To me those are the presents I would like to receive. I am referring to adults of course. It would be hard to change children’s concept of Christmas. However, a concerted drive to reduce plastic toys would help youngsters think about the planet. Oh well, let’s hope the January blues fade really quickly!
